Mercedes AMG G63 2020
Mercedes AMG G63 2020 – Doug De Muro walks us through why this year’s all new upgrades make the G Wagon the best in class, and finally worth the $250’000 USD price tag
The Mercedes G Class has always been a style, fashion and status symbol, been a more than capable off roader and impressive performer for it’s size, shape and weight. Yet the G Wagon has always lacked in attention to luxury details that mean it could never really justify its overly inflated price tag.
2019 saw refinement close panel gaps, add independent from suspension for a smoother on-road ride quality and refine style details such as remove visible screws form the indicators (turn signals) and integrate the side reflectors.
The 2020 model markets itself as an all new design rather than a refinement. And it shows. Ride quality, interior quality and attention to detail have all improved. Yet, the infotainment system is still running Mercedes last cycle models. Non-touch screen infotainment in a quarter of a million dollar car when entry level CLA and A class Mercedes even receive the latest systems seems a strange corner to cut for Mercedes. The 9-14 MPG fuel economy is far from great but also not the worst for a vehicle of these specifications.
On the overall balance of performance, luxury, comfort, practicality, off-road capability, style, status symbol and build quality, this may be the first G Class that is actually worth the price tag.
On little attention to detail: To stop cars parked next to you smashing your doors with their doors, the running boards in the G Class protrude just enough to protect the side of the G Wagon meaning any careless or malicious parker will only damage their own door and not scratch your new beloved Mercedes G Class.

Since you’re here …
… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading Al-Sahawat Times than ever but advertising revenues across the global media industry are falling fast. And unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a total paywall. We want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Al-Sahawat Times’ independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe truly ethical media and an unbias perspective really matters.
“I appreciate there not being a paywall: it is more democratic for the media to be available for all and not a commodity to be purchased by a few. I’m happy to make a contribution so others with less means still have access to information.”
If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, the future of ethical media and the futures of our staff and their families would be much more secure. For as little as £1, you can support Al-Sahawat Times and it only takes a minute. Thank you.
